Vilfredo Pareto- Econ 490 Fall 2019
Vilfredo Pareto
Vilfredo Pareto was a notable sociologist and economist who lived during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The reason he was notable was because of the way he applied mathematics to our understanding of economics.
Cours d’économie politique was his most famous work, in this, Pareto stated that income distribution throughout social strata has a mathematical pattern. This mathematical application and finding was met with much criticism and debate. Nevertheless, the work is hugely significant. Topics which we have seen widely in our macro and micro economics classes, including indifference curves and the namesake Pareto optimums, were all works of the economist.
I had heard of this person, but was not intimately familiar with his work, before being assigned him as my alias. It seems as though his contributions to economics are very relevant to our class- they have vast implications on income and distribution theories in economics.

Some of Pareto's ideas will be featured prominently in the first real Excel homework.
ReplyDeleteI did notice! It seems as though his concepts are some of the most foundational of all economic theories.
